Old rivals clash on Friday night in El Dorado Hills when top-ranked Folsom visits No. 4 Oak Ridge in a Sierra Foothill League showdown.

Folsom has had Oak Ridge’s number, and then some, defeating the Trojans every season since 2006, including in CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division I championship games in 2022 and 2023. That adds up to 21 consecutive victories for Folsom over Oak Ridge, and you can be sure the Trojans have had enough.

In an SFL meeting last season when Folsom was No. 1 and Oak Ridge was No. 2, Ryder Lyons passed for 411 yards and accounted for five total scores, passing and running, in a 42-21 triumph. In the section finals at Hughes Stadium, Lyons scored the winner on a 10-yard run with 34 seconds left for a 34-27 decision as the Bulldogs three-peated as section champions. Lyons accounted for five scores in that game as well.

A junior 5-star recruit and The Bee’s Player of the Year in 2023, Lyons lives in El Dorado Hills but has been at Folsom High since the start of his freshman year. Erick Orme rushed for three touchdowns for Oak Ridge against Folsom last season in SFL play, and the senior running back plays for Folsom after an off-season transfer down Highway 50.

Oak Ridge coach Casey Taylor told The Bee after the section finals last season of the series, “A lot of great games, but if we want to make it a great rivalry, we’ve gotta win one.”

    1. Folsom (4-1)

    Result: Beat Davis, forfeit

    Next: Friday at Oak Ridge

Update: It’s Trojans week and that’s plenty of motivation for the Bulldogs, who are still seething that Davis elected not to play last Friday on Folsom’s Homecoming and forfeited. Folsom’s loss was by a point to Serra of San Mateo.

    2. Grant (3-3)

Result: Lost to Lincoln-San Diego, 49-19

    Next: Friday vs. Kennedy

Update: The Pacers remain ranked second because, what other team locally has taken on this schedule? The losses are to NorCal No. 1 De La Salle, Fresno-area top-ranked Clovis East and last week to the top-ranked team in the San Diego Section.

    3. Rocklin (4-1)

    Result: Beat Jesuit, 52-14

    Next: Friday at Whitney

Update: The Thunder bounced back from their Folsom loss with a satisfying effort as Reeve Slone passed for 194 yards, Rafi Merino ran for 163 yards and two scores and Derek Kelley rumbled and raced for 141 and two. Two-way star Mikey Cunningham made plays on offense and defense.

    4. Oak Ridge (2-3)

    Result: Beat Granite Bay, 30-17

    Next: Friday vs. Folsom

Update: The Trojans got what they wanted out of the brutal early schedule against powerhouse programs: some stout competition, some travel to bond the team, and justification after opening with a 2-0 start in the SFL . New QB Phoenix Hester passed for 204 yards and a TD against Granite Bay, and he ran for 72. Jasen Womack ran for two scores and caught one.

    5. Granite Bay (4-1)

Result: Lost to Oak Ridge, 30-17

    Next: Friday at Del Oro

Update: The Grizzlies received strong games from RB Isaiah Ene and WR Joseph Cattolico, among others, but turnovers hurt. The Granite Bay-Del Oro series has been among the section’s best since it started in Placer County in 1997.

    6. Twelve Bridges (5-0)

    Result: Beat River Valley, 66-20

    Next: Friday at Yuba City

Update: The Raging Rhinos of the Foothill Valley League have their second senior class as a newer school and have climbed to their highest Bee ranking for any sport. Connor Flaherty had four TD passes, Braeden Ward rushed for 82 yards and two scores, and Davin Markle had three sacks and 10 tackles on Homecoming night.

    7. West Park (6-0)

    Result: Beat Destiny Christian, 23-21

    Next: Friday vs. Antelope

Update: The Panthers earned a big win in Metro League play behind playmakers HaReal Greer (seven catches for 162 yards and two TDs and broke up two passes on defense), and stoppers Calvon CQ CQ Johnson, who had 13 tackles and recovered two fumbles. The leaders on the defensive front include Aiden Frisk and Briggs Bevans.

    8. Jesuit (3-2)

    Result: Lost to Rocklin, 52-14

    Next: Friday vs. Davis

Update: The Marauders felt the wrath of an angry Rocklin team, trailing 31-7 at the half are are suddenly 0-2 in the SFL. Next is Davis, which plans to finish the season without any more forfeits due to low roster numbers and injuries.

    9. Placer (5-1)

    Result: Lost to Roseville, 36-35

    Next: Friday at Nevada Union

Update: The Hillmen lost a crusher in FVL action but remain higher-ranked than Roseville because of strength of schedule. Defeats have a way of firing up the best teams.

    10. Christian Brothers (3-3)

Result: Beat Vista del Lago, 36-28

    Next: Friday at Woodcreek

Update: A week after stunning Inderkum, the Falcons held off Vista to move to 2-0 in the Capital Valley Conference. Deakon Holden fired three TD passes, two to Kingston Sablab, and the state’s leading tackler in Josiah Campbell recorded 12 more stops.

    11. Inderkum (3-2)

Update: In a Delta League opener, the Mustangs looked the part as the class of the Elk Grove Unified School District. Odie Jefferson rushed for 140 yards and a TD, Kaden Love went for two rushing scores, and Isaiah Costley returned an interception 87 yards for a score.

    13. Destiny Christian (4-2)

Result: Lost to West Park, 23-21

    Next: Oct. 11 at Kennedy

Update: The Lions are fuming over a game they thought was theirs, but they have found out that they can compete for the Metro League title, though they cannot lose from here. Dallas Munn passed for 355 yards and two TDs and ran for one.

    14. Sacramento (5-0)

    Result: Beat Pioneer, 39-14

    Next: Friday at Rodriguez

Le’Ron James-Radcrliffe passed for four TDs, two to Labradian Keyward, who also had two interceptions on defense, and freshman Cordell Radcliffe had a TD rush and two TD catches.

    15. Vacaville (3-3)

    Result: Lost to Rodriguez, 22-16

    Next: Friday at Vanden

Update: The Bulldogs have owned the MEL for years but suffered their first loss to Rodriguez in the 16-year history between the Solano County programs. Vanden is no easy test, either.

    Next: Friday at Chico

Update: Warming up just in time for a title run, the Thundering Herd have hit a new gear behind QB leader David Hale. He ran for 139 yards and three TDs and passed for two to keep Elk Grove unbeaten in the Delta.

    18. Yuba City (4-1)

    Result: Bye

    Next: Friday vs. Twelve Bridges

Update: The Honkers can jam up the FVL standings with a victory over Twelve Bridges, having already beaten Roseville. How’s this for tradition: Yuba City High is 101 years old with championship banners in all sports dotted the walls of its rustic gem of a gym.

    19. Roseville (3-2)

    Result: Beat Placer, 36-35

    Next: Friday at River Valley

Update: Game ball to coach Adam Reinking, who went for two points and the win late to topple the Hillmen. Mason Susnara passed for 282 yards and two TDs, and offensive cogs Kenny McClure and D’Marcis Gresham played big.

    20. Whitney (2-3)

    Result: Beat Del Oro, 21-20

    Next: Friday vs. Rocklin

Update: The Wildcats of Placer County have losses to higher-ranked West Park (10-7), Woodcreek (49-35) and Twelve Bridges (52-34) and earned a gritty effort over Del Oro to equal last season’s victory total. This week’s Quarry Bowl rivalry game is expected to be another sellout.

    Result: Beat Woodland, 38-20

    Next: Friday vs. Rio Linda

    23. Sutter (5-1)

    Result: Beat Dixon 50-6

    Next: Friday at El Camino

Update: The Huskies and Casa Roble are the class of the GEL. Marcus Meras rushed for 156 yards and two scores, including a 75-yarder, and Jayden Carreon had two sacks. The loss was in the final seconds to Bradshaw Christian.

    24. Nevada Union (5-1)

    Result: Beat Del Campo, 15-6

    Next: Friday at Placer

Update: The Miners are a contender in the terrific PVL that includes Twelve Bridges, Placer and Yuba City. Rhyder Eelkena and Ziggy Pritchett give NU a nice 1-2 running back punch. NU played its best game in downing Del Campo.

    25. Woodland Christian (4-1)

    Result: Beat Lindhurst, 49-14

    Next: Friday vs. Mesa Verde

Update: The Cardinals have an opening loss to Bradshaw Christian and rolled last week behind offensive stars Isaiah Hunt (two TD passes) and RB Noah Hinkle (TD rush) and an aggressive defense.

Bubble: Del Campo (4-2), Lincoln (4-1), Ponderosa (5-1), Union Mine (4-1), Wheatland (5-0), Winters (5-0).
