A 22-year-old Wendy’s worker died after he was stabbed in a dispute with a customer who was moving furniture in the restaurant, Hawaii police told news outlets.

A second employee, a 44-year-old man, also was stabbed while coming to the aid of the first worker in the incident in Nanakuli on Oahu at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, police told Hawaii News Now.

The second worker is hospitalized in serious condition , KHON reported.

The incident began when the 22-year-old employee asked a 60-year-old man to stop moving furniture inside the restaurant, police told the Honolulu Star Advertiser.

An argument broke out and the two workers escorted the customer outside, police told the publication.

The younger employee punched the patron, who stabbed him and the other worker, police told Hawaii News Now.

“The safety of our customers and employees is our highest priority, and we are deeply shocked and saddened by this senseless and tragic incident,” Cotti Foods, the owner of the Wendy’s, told KHON in a statement.

“The restaurant will remain closed until further notice,” the statement said.

Nanakuli is about a 25-mile drive northwest from Honolulu.
