A California agency was awarded $10 million to provide training and assistance to small businesses statewide.

The state Office of the Small Business Advocate applied for and received a $10 million award from the Treasury Department, which it will use to offer one-on-one counseling, training and resources for small businesses.

“California has the largest small business community of any state. And the funding from U.S. Treasury is helping to build the support and providing handholding that 4.1 million small business owners deserve,” said Tara Lynn Gray, director of the California Office of the Small Business Advocate.

The department said the program will support underserved small businesses, and help companies take advantage of state agencies’ requirements for small business participation.

The state agency was selected through a competitive process.
