See Sacramento Jewish community hold vigil at Capitol to mark anniversary of Oct. 7 attack

Sacramento’s Jewish community gathered Monday evening at the state Capitol to mark the one-year anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attack and in defense of Israel in the subsequent conflict.

A couple hundred people listened to a program that included personal tributes from impacted families and prayers from regional rabbis and cantors.

“Memory is the thread that has sustained us through thousands of years of history, through unbearable loss, unimaginable horrors, joyful moments, big accomplishments and across vast distances,” said Marieta Socolovsky, CEO of The Jewish Federation of the Sacramento Region .

Pictures of victims of the attack were projected on a screen, and candles were lit in their memory. One of the candles was lit by Sacramento resident Ryan Pessah, whose cousin Yair Yaakow died after being taken hostage in the attack.
