Heavy metal returned to Discovery Park on Thursday as Aftershock 2024 roared into Sacramento.

The four-day festival kicked off Thursday on five stages, finishing the night with headliners Slayer and Pantera .

Slayer’s set marked the second time the band had played together in the past five years.

Three more nights of hard rock — featuring mainstays such as Iron Maiden and Motley Crue — await at the confluence of Sacramento’s two major rivers.
