A man is accused of killing his mother and half-brother after their severely decomposed bodies were found during a welfare check, California police say.

Officers arrived at an Antioch home to perform a welfare check shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, the Antioch Police Department said in a Facebook post.

Shortly after officers arrived, they found “the bodies of a man and woman in advanced stages of decomposition,” police said.

Officers stopped a man as he was trying to leave the home, police said.

The man, the son of the woman and half-brother of the man, was identified as a suspect in the two deaths, according to police.

The man, who was not identified by police, was booked into jail on two counts of murder, officers said.

Police said the deaths are still being investigated, adding that “no further information will be released at this time.”

Antioch is about a 45-mile drive northeast from San Francisco.
