A poker player used strategy and “good fortune” to score a big jackpot at a casino near Las Vegas.

Now, the visitor is $187,778.47 richer.

The anonymous player sat at a Pai Gow poker table Oct. 16 at the Cannery Casino & Hotel in North Las Vegas, Boyd Gaming said in a news release.

Then the poker player placed a $1 bet on the progressive jackpot, $10 on the regular bet and $3 on the fortune bet, the company said.

The gambler flipped over the cards and ended up with a seven-card straight flush.

A straight flush is one of the rarest hands in poker , according to Upswing Poker. For this hand, a player has to get cards in sequential order and in the same suit.

    The lucky poker player’s winning cards were 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, joker and 8.

North Las Vegas is about a 3-mile drive northeast from Las Vegas.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.
