Nature center’s summer art show celebrates Michigan flora, fauna
MIDLAND, MI – Visitors to Midland’s Chippewa Nature Center can see a special art exhibition there this summer. “Forged: Sculpted by Nature,” an exhibition of metal sculptures representing Michigan’s diverse array of flora and fauna, is a collaboration among Midland Center for the Arts, CNC, the Max Carey Blacksmith Guild/Steve Anderson School of Blacksmithing (the Guild) and local artists, according to a CNC news release.
Lake Erie harmful algae blooms are ‘getting worse,” say forecasters
TOLEDO, OH — Algae season has begun on Lake Erie and forecasters are expecting the toxic bloom severity to be “moderate to larger-than-moderate” this year. Federal scientists say the bloom began this week off Monroe County and is expected to measure between 4.5 and 6 on a 1-10 severity scale. Anything over 7.5 is considered severe.

Deputy fatally shot during traffic stop identified as Iraq War veteran, father of 5
HILLSDALE COUNTY, MI – Police have identified the Michigan sheriff’s deputy fatally shot while on the job in Hillsdale County. Deputy William Henry Butler Jr., 51, died Thursday, June 27.
