July's full Buck Moon lights up the night sky this weekend
Summer is in full swing with July’s full Buck Moon lighting up the night sky in the upcoming days. The full moon will officially occur on Sunday at 6:17 a.m. Of course, full moons rise at sunset and set at sunrise, so the moon won’t be visible when it technically reaches its full phase for us in Michigan. However, it’ll appear full for about three days, especially on Saturday night.

Great Lakes really warming up, Warmest since 2020
The progression from a very warm winter to now has caused the Great Lakes’ surface waters to generally be the warmest to date in the past four years. We are definitely seeing how an extremely warm winter and very little Great Lakes’ ice can translate into warmer waters in the summer. It has been the case this summer. Now the surface water temperatures around the Great Lakes are generally showing up as the warmest for July 16 since 2020.
Hillsdale sergeant accused of repeatedly pepper spraying restrained inmate heads to trial
HILLSDALE COUNTY, MI – A Hillsdale County Sheriff’s sergeant accused of assaulting a female inmate in the county jail is heading to trial. Sgt. Ronald Leggitt, 43, of Marshall waived his right to a preliminary examination Wednesday, July 17, sending his case to the Hillsdale County Circuit Court. He allegedly repeatedly pepper sprayed a female jail inmate in the face only inches away from her eyes while she was restrained, according to the Michigan Attorney General’s Office.
