The Dallas County Commission has denied a lounge retail license for an Orrville nightclub where a 19-year-old was shot to death July 7.

Sandra Rogers Simmons submitted an application for the Shop Boyz Lounge at 3901 County Road 33 in Orrville to operate under a type 010-Lounge Retail Liquor-Class 1 license. During it’s regular meeting on Monday, August 12, District 4 Commissioner Jan Justice recommended that the commission deny the application due to the previous incident that occurred at the business.

Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn, who presides over the commission meetings, said the commission follows the recommendation of the commissioner in that district on alcohol applications like this.

    The resolution was unanimously denied.

The issues stem from the July 5 incident in which Jeremy Bryant, 19, of Orrville was killed and another man was wounded in the leg during a shooting at the establishment.

Dallas County Sheriff’s deputies arrested and charged six men with felony murder. Suspects arrested included Tremark Atkins, Roger Murray, Aaron Tower, Mikle Butler, Marquis Owens and Ja’Travius Simmons, and they were all being held on no bond.

In an unrelated matter, the Dallas County Commission also approved a liquor license for Kaypi Food Mart in Marion Junction, which was formerly known as Mae’s Country Store.
