SHEBOYGAN – The Sheboygan County Food Bank was presented a $50,000 check at the Sheboygan Rotary Club's Good Citizen & Scholarship Recognition dinner in April to help purchase a new food collection transport truck.

The donation from the Making Spirits Bright board of directors was made possible by more than 73,000 visitors who gave donations at the holiday light show, according to a news release. Donations given to SCFB from Making Spirits Bright over the last 12 years, including the check, total $205,000. SCFB partners with Making Spirits Bright as a food donation recipient.

Funds will go toward a new food bank truck because the current one needs several costly repairs and has become unreliable. SCFB trucks have transported more than 1.1 million pounds of food over the last 12 years of the holiday light show.

Liz Kroll, SCFB founder and senior director of programs and community impact, was the Good Citizen of the Year award recipient.

How to help kids facing hunger: Sheboygan's food bank needs your help to support 500 kids facing hunger next school year. Here's how to donate.

SCFB serves, on average, more than 6,400 families a month facing hunger through various programs like the food pantry, Community Cafe and Food for Thought for Kids.

Making Spirits Bright donated funds for a food transportation truck in 2019, too. The 16-foot refrigerated truck and lift gate helped SCFB pick up and deliver fresh foods.
