    SHEBOYGAN – East central Sheboygan County was under a flash flood warning Friday afternoon and evening.

    The National Weather Service issued the warning shortly after 3:30 p.m. and it was to remain in effect until 5:30 p.m., however they subsequently extended it until 9 p.m.

    In a 6:30 p.m. update, the city of Sheboygan said between 1 and 3 inches of rain had already fallen, and additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches were possible in the warned area.

    The release said potential impacts include flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses and other locations with poor drainage or low-lying terrain.

    Some locations the National Weather Service says will experience flooring included Sheboygan, Plymouth, Sheboygan Falls, Howards Grove, Oostburg, Kohler, Cedar Grove, Random Lake, Cascade, Adell, Waldo, Gibbsville, Hingham, Johnsonville and Haven.

    The forecast for Saturday expects about a third of a inch to fall between 1 and 7 p.m.

    The city of Sheboygan urged residents to exercise extreme caution. Several roads were already closed Friday evening with barricades in place. The city said residents should not remove barricades or attempt to drive through flooded areas as most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles.

    While some surface flooding may begin to recede, the city said additional rain is expected. The National Weather Service forecast called for a chance of rain or thunderstorms through Saturday night.

    The city urged residents to remain alert and prepare for potential rerouting if traveling. It shared the following safety reminders:

    • Avoid driving through standing water;
    • Respect all road closures and barricades;
    • Remain alert for potential additional rainfall; and
    • Do not drive around or move barricades.
