SHENANDOAH – A Shenandoah man is in Schuylkill County Prison after police said his dog attacked two passersby and another dog.

Michael Medina, 35, of 238 West Arlington Street, is facing misdemeanor flight to avoid apprehension and summary public drunkenness and confinement and control of a dog charges.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Trooper Ryan Sverchek of the State Police at Frackville, troopers were called to the area of 231 West Arlington Street around 6:40pm Thursday for a dog law violation.

The caller told troopers that Medina’s dog had been roaming the streets and bit someone else.

As troopers were talking to the caller, another man with a white dog was yelling in the street that Medina’s dog was attacking the man and his dog.

Medina, troopers said, was then seen running west on Lloyd Street with his dog, who was not on a leash.

Troopers caught up to Medina on West Arlington at Catherine Street, where they said he was unable to stand up straight and was stumbling in the roadway.

The dog remained free and Medina was yelling for it in the middle of the street, troopers said.

When troopers asked Medina for his name and birthdate, he told them “No.” He then began walking away.

After multiple commands to stop, troopers said he then began to run away eastbound on West Arlington.

Following a brief foot pursuit, a taser device was deployed and Medina was taken into custody.

He had numerous bench warrants, troopers said.

Medina was arraigned Thursday by on-call Magisterial District Judge James Reiley and committed to Schuylkill County Prison, unable to post 10% of $10,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for August 22.

Another irresponsible dog owner, and the dog is unfortunately likely to be a breed that already has a bad reputation due to ill fit owners.
