At that time, fans begged the left-handed quarterback to consider retiring from football. After a relatively healthy 2023 campaign, Tagovailoa felt fairly good coming into this fall. Unfortunately, all that confidence was derailed by Thursday's events. So, what should Tagovailoa do moving forward? Dr. Bennet Omalu, the neuropathologist who discovered CTE, believes it's time for Tagovailoa to hang up his cleats. "If I were his brother, his father, his uncle, cousin, nephew, if I were a member of his family," <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2024/09/14/concussion-omalu-advice-nfl-dolphins-tua-retirement/#continued" rel="nofollow"> Omalu said, via TMZ Sports </a> . "I would beg him to retire." "It's not worth it. It's not worth it to play the game. I’ve never witnessed anything like what has happened to him three times. It's scary. You can see the faces of the players on the field. You can see the sense of urgency from everyone to get Tua help. I just think at some point you need to realize you're gonna live longer than you'll play football. Take care of your family." The Dolphins aren't ready to slam the door shut on Tagovailoa. They have expressed a ton of confidence in him.
