"Helene is expected to intensify in the eastern Gulf, possibly rapidly so, and then make a landfall somewhere along the Gulf Coast of Florida as a large, major hurricane late Thursday afternoon or Thursday night," wrote Weather.com senior meteorologist Jonathan Erdman <a href="https://weather.com/storms/hurricane/news/2024-09-23-tropical-storm-hurricane-helene-forecast-gulf-florida" rel="nofollow"> on Monday </a> . While computer forecast models suggest the most likely location for a landfall is in Florida's Big Bend region, remember that hurricane impacts (surge, winds, rain) often happen far from the center.​ "There are still a few computer ensemble model forecasts with tracks as far east as Florida's West Coast and as far west as near the Alabama-Florida state line. So, all along and near the Florida Gulf Coast should continue to monitor the forecast for changes in the coming days."
