Mitchell Oakley: Privacy is as important as the right to remain silent
Okay, let me get the disclaimer out of the way because I am certain a few folks may not appreciate my stance on a recent change in a company’s policy of sharing video recordings with police. Here goes: I am pro-police. I do not take part in any anti-police defunding rhetoric fueled by the liberal Democrats. I support the police and know that their efforts keep our crime rates much lower than they would be otherwise. I also know they have tough jobs. I’ve seen...
J.M. Biggs: Discover what Jesus wants from us
It is only by the mercy of God that we are still alive and in our right minds. A lot of us have been through so much through the years and have seen a lot of things. While you are reading this, you’re probably thinking about some of the bad things that happened in your life or some of the greatest things. No matter what, good or bad, we can all say the Lord has been so good. Sometimes when I’m sitting alone meditating on...
Celia Stone: Benediction charges faithful to live God-filled lives
At the conclusion of many worship services the minister speaks words of encouragement to send the congregation out into the world, to love and serve the Lord. Some congregants receive the benediction with their eyes closed and their hands cupped, facing up, in a posture of anticipation for the bestowal of a blessing. Others look at the minister and soak in the important words of being commissioned or sent. The...

Davis has a special night even by high standards
Imagine being the first person to accomplish something since Michael Jordan did it. It sounds impressive, am I right? Doesn’t really matter what the accomplishment is. If you are the first person to do it since he did it, the assumption is that you must be really good. UNC’s basketball team has a point guard named R.J. Davis and I watched him do something against Miami the other night that...
