A 12-year-old boy is believed to have become the youngest person convicted in relation to the recent riots .

The youngster admitted two charges of violent disorder after throwing a missile at a police van and taking part in two separate incidents of unrest in Manchester.

The city magistrates court heard the youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was part of a group that gathered on July 31 outside a Holiday Inn hotel housing asylum seekers.

Prosecutors said the boy was “filmed by police kicking the front window of a vape shop” and was also seen kicking a bus as it drove past him.

Another 12-year-old youth is scheduled to appear at Liverpool Youth Court charged with violent disorder.

He is one of three more people to have been charged following the unrest in the town on July 30, that broke out after the fatal stabbing of three young girls at a dance class.Harvey Gabbott, 21, Tarleton, and Paul Dryhurst, 33, of Litherland, have also been charged with violent disorder.

They have been remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Merseyside Police said the latest charges bring the total number of people charged with recent disorder in Southport and Liverpool to 30.

Riots broke out across the UK in the wake of the killing of Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine, Bebe King, six, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, in a mass stabbing at a dance class in Southport on July 29.

Eight other children were injured in the attack and all have now been discharged from hospital to recover at home.
