Those playing in the Champions League or Europa League this term cannot be drawn against a team also competing in one of those competitions, due to the scheduling of the new European calendar.
That means Arsenal , Tottenham , Manchester United , Manchester City, Liverpool and Aston Villa will be drawn out first against second-round winners, although Chelsea will not be given this privilege as the Europa Conference League’s schedule does not collide with the Carabao Cup in the same way.
When is the Carabao Cup draw?
The draw for the third round will take place tonight, Wednesday August 28, 2024, following the conclusion of Nottingham Forest’s televised all-Premier League second-round clash with Newcastle at the City Ground.
The Carabao Cup draw should therefore take place at around 10.15pm BST if the tie is decided in 90 minutes, with the start time delayed if the game finishes as a draw and goes to penalties.
There will first be a pre-draw before the game to determine the home and away positions of the six European clubs in Bowl One.
