A man has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of an “innocent bystander” who was with her three year old child at the Notting Hill Carnival .

Cher Maximen, 32, remains in a critical condition after she was stabbed on Sunday after she tried to save a man who was being attacked, Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard.

Shakiel Thibou, 20, from west London was arrested at an address in Hammersmith on Tuesday morning.

He appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with attempted murder, violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon.

Two other men, who are his brothers, also appeared alongside him in the dock in connection with the same incident.

Sheldon Thibou, 24, from Hammersmith has been charged with violent disorder, possession of a stun gun and assaulting an emergency worker.

Meanwhile Shaeim Thibou, 22, of West Kensington has been charged with violent disorder and assaulting an emergency worker. He indicated a not guilty plea to the charges.

Officers in Golborne Road, were alerted to reports of a stabbing at around 6pm on Sunday.

The officers, including police medics, gave emergency medical treatment until the arrival of paramedics.

Ms Maximen was transported to St Mary’s hospital in Paddington where she remains.

Prosecutor Adriatic Ahmed told the court that Ms Cher had been stabbed while trying to stop another carnival goer from being attacked.

She said she had gone into cardiac arrest after being stabbed. She had suffered “life changing injuries” having lost 20 units of blood, the court was told.

She has had multiple surgeries and and one of her lungs collapsed. She has been put in an induced coma.

The prosecutor said: “She (Ms Cher) had attended with her three-year-old daughter.

“She was an innocent bystander. As she shielded the intended victim … she was stabbed. She fell back on the ground.

“The offence happened in broad daylight.”

The cases of all three brothers were adjourned to the Old Bailey on September 25 by District Judge John Zani.

All three, who spoke only to confirm their names, dates of birth and addresses, were remanded in custody.
