PlayStation State of Play: How to watch and what to expect

The next PlayStation State of Play happens today, September 24.
It will be a late night for anyone who wants to watch live, though. The show begins at 11pm, UK time.
These State of Play presentations are used to showcase upcoming PlayStation 5 and PS VR 2 games, and they tend to take place two to four times a year.
The last was broadcast on May 30. And just like last time, PlayStation fans can watch the presentation “live” on YouTube or Twitch.
Over at YouTube, the placeholder video page is already live.
How long will the broadcast be?
The September 24 State of Play will be “30+” minutes long, according to Sony. While it may kick off past some of our bedtimes, you won’t need to stay up for hours to stay informed.
Sony does know the exact length of the show by now, as State of Play presentations are slick, tight, pre-recorded affairs. But it clearly wants to retain some sense of mystery.
The May State of Play clocked in at 35 minutes, while the September 2023 show was just 27 minutes long. We’re looking at an upgrade year-on-year, if nothing else.
Which games are expected to be announced?
Sony PlayStation says more than 20 games will be shown during the September State of Play.
Most of these games will have been announced before, with the show bringing updates in the form of firm release dates or new trailers. However, we may also hear about some new releases.
A couple of candidates that have not been officially announced yet include PlayStation 5 remasters of Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone.
These were PS4 titles originally. Horizon Zero Dawn was released in 2017, Days Gone in 2019. And they are staples of the PlayStation console exclusive catalogue.
There is still plenty of scope for a third-party developer to surprise us with a game we’ve never heard of before during the show.
What trailers can fans expect?
This State of Play happens just two weeks after the announcement of the PlayStation 5 Pro , which goes on sale on November 7.
Its price, £699.99 without a disc drive, caused quite a stir. But we may well see some time given over to trailers showing off visual upgrades and updates to existing games.
The PlayStation 5 Pro launch presentation focused on Sony first-party titles. It would make sense for Sony to want to get its third-party developer partners involved at this point, too.
