Mental health in the workplace is the theme for the annual day, which this year is on Thursday October 10.

The World Federation of Mental Health, which chose the theme, wants people to focus on the benefits a workforce in good mental health has for individuals, organisations and communities.

As part of the day, the Mental Health Foundation is supporting Tea & Talk events across the UK. It offers free downloadable packs , which enable people to raise money for and awareness of the foundation. Last year there were at least 7,000 events across the UK and more than 250,000 people took part.

It also has been active at the party conferences and representatives have talked to Labour MPs about ensuring the new Online Safety Act keeps people safe, and also about getting the NHS to do more to prevent mental illness and promote wellbeing.

When is World Mental Health Day 2024?

World Mental Health Day will be celebrated on October 10 as always.

Talking about the special occasion, which has been marked since 1992, the Mental Health UK website said: “We know that harmful barriers to good mental health still exist in our homes, schools, and workplaces. This World Mental Health Day we invite everyone to join us by pledging to protect, promote, and respect mental health in our communities.

“With your help, we can encourage everyone to commit to making their mental health a priority.”

What is the theme for World Mental Health Day 2024?

Each year, a theme is decided on to encourage a positive direction and raise awareness for mental health issues.

The theme this year is to acknowledge the importance of good mental health in the workplace.

    How to support the cause

The MHF website offers downloadable posters and social graphics and the foundation is active on Instagram , X , Facebook and LinkedIn .

Alternatively, you could make a difference to someone else by checking in on that person and giving a helping hand if he or she has been having a tough time recently.

As always, wearing a green ribbon on Mental Health Day will also be a symbolic way to raise awareness for mental health.
