Man jailed for stabbing teenager to death as he left north London restaurant

A man has been jailed for killing 18-year-old Yusuf Mahamoud by stabbing him in the neck as he left a restaurant in Finchley with friends.

Tyrese Jennings, 21, was sentenced to 13 years' imprisonment at the Old Bailey on Wednesday, after being convicted of manslaughter.

Police and paramedics were called to reports of a stabbing in Regent’s Park Road, Finchley, around 9.40pm on August 7 last year.

They found Mr Mahamoud, from Enfield, seriously injured. He died at the scene from a stab wound to the neck.

Detectives found that Mr Mahamoud had left his home earlier that evening, before arriving in the Regent’s Park Road area around 9pm in a car with a number of friends. They got out and went into a nearby restaurant.

Jennings and two teenage boys confronted Mr Mahamoud when he left the restaurant.

During the ensuing altercation, Mr Mahamoud was stabbed in the neck and the three males made off.

Detectives began an investigation and using CCTV and mobile phone analysis quickly identified the three males as Jennings and two 15-year-old boys.

Jennings, of Litchfield Grove, Finchley, was arrested on August 14 and charged with murder . He was found guilty of manslaughter on July 11 following an Old Bailey trial. He was found not guilty of murder.

At the same court on Wednesday (October 9), he was sentenced to 13 years in prison.

The two 15-year-old boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were also charged with murder. They were found not guilty of all offences at the same court.

Detective Chief Inspector Tom Williams, Specialist Crime, said on Wednesday: "Our thoughts today are with Yusuf's family. He was a young man with his life ahead of him and they continue to grieve his untimely loss.

“I hope seeing the conviction and today the sentencing of Jennings brings them some small comfort."
