Reports from multiple outlets including the BBC on Thursday say the Moroccan right-back will make a full recovery and is expected to return to action on the pitch “within the next few weeks”.
Mazraoui has been among the few bright spots of an otherwise hugely disappointing start to the season by United, having impressed since joining from Bayern Munich for £12.8million in August along with Matthijs de Ligt.
The 26-year-old has been a regular fixture on the right side of defence at Old Trafford so far this term, starting all but one of the club’s 10 matches across all competitions and coming off the bench in the other.
United have been hit hard by injury worries again of late, with Harry Maguire also forced off at half-time against Villa and now facing weeks on the sidelines .
Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo and Amad Diallo have all withdrawn from international duty too in recent days citing fitness concerns, while summer signing Leny Yoro is stepping up his recovery from surgery on a foot injury suffered shortly after his arrival in pre-season.
Under-fire manager Erik ten Hag will hope to have Luke Shaw back soon with the England international having not played for United since February as the result of hamstring and calf injuries, while fellow left-back Tyrell Malacia is also building his fitness having missed the whole of last season.
Mason Mount also missed the last two matches against Porto and Villa having suffered a head injury late on against Tottenham in a game in which he himself was only introduced as a replacement for the injured Mainoo, having just returned from a calf issue.
United have made their worst-ever start to a Premier League season and currently languish down in 14th place in the table after collecting just seven points from their first eight matches.
Ten Hag’s future was expected to be discussed at a seven-hour meeting of the club’s executive committee in London on Tuesday, but as it stands the Dutchman seems likely to remain in charge for next weekend’s home top-flight meeting with Brentford at Old Trafford, which is followed by a reunion with former boss Jose Mourinho in the Europa League as they head to Istanbul to take on Fenerbahce.
