History within reach at 2024 CCNB Women's Four-Ball for two-time defending champs

DARTMOUTH — Susan Sylvia and Christine Torpey have the chance to make history at the 2024 Country Club of New Bedford Women’s Four-Ball, which kicks off on Monday morning.

Winning back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023 , the duo can become the first to ever win three straight Four-Ball championships over the past 45 years.

“No one has won three in a row,” said Diane Lacoste, chairperson of the CCNB Women’s Four-Ball. “I think they have a decent shot. There are other teams that will be in the mix too.”

The invitational will begin Monday with eight Four-Ball matchups and will conclude on Thursday with the finals.

Among the 16 teams playing for the Four-Ball title, there are four other past champions — Kim Walecka, Deborah Hynes, Pat Ansay and JoAnn Squillante — in the field. Also 10 out of the 16 teams include returning partners.

Among the new partnerships are guest-guest teams of Sandi Cummings and Wanda Sommers Wall, and Barb Pierce and Rennae VanHorn.

Cummings and Sommers Wall, who are both from Florida, won the CCNB Four-Ball Satellite Division a year ago. This is their first time competing in the major championship.

Pierce and VanHorn are also from Florida.

Sandra Tillett, a former CCNB member who won a pair of titles with Donna Doyle in 1998 and 2003, is back as a guest, playing with Barbara Grunkemeyer.
