EASTON — Glenda Cornish, a certified nurse assistant at UM Shore Regional Health, was recently awarded the Mid Shore Nursing Assistant Advisory Council’s CNA of the Year Award.

“I am honored and thrilled to be selected as CNA of the Year,” Cornish said. “My profession gives me great joy, and I’m proud to be recognized for excellence in patient care.”

Cornish has been a CNA for 45 years, 36 of them at Shore Regional. She is based at UM Shore Emergency Center at Cambridge.

Cornish was chosen from among 23 candidates who were nominated for the annual award by supervisors and peers representing hospital, medical practice, assisted living and Alzheimer’s care, home care and skilled nursing entities in Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Talbot counties. Nominees are evaluated from criteria that includes patient safety, leadership, teamwork, compassion, professionalism and work ethic.

“We are thrilled that Glenda received this well-deserved award,” said Danielle Wilson, senior vice president and chief nursing officer for Shore Regional. “We are proud to have presented so many wonderful nominees for this year’s awards. This dedicated group of professionals deserves recognition for the essential work they do. I am deeply grateful.”

Cornish was nominated by fellow team member Meghan Thompson, who wrote: “Glenda Cornish is an amazing CNA who goes above and beyond for her ER family and patients every day. She is always willing to help others learn and give them tips and tricks to succeed... She is a staple of our community. I cannot tell you how many patients and their families come in and are so relieved when they see Glenda’s smile.”
