Lansing, Union Springs capture Interscholastic Athletic Conference baseball titles

Union Springs and Lansing secured Interscholastic Athletic Conference baseball titles in far different manners Saturday at Wells College in Aurora.

Union Springs pulled away to an 11-1 victory over Tioga Central in the opener to claim the Small School crown.

In the Large School title game, Lansing overcame a 5-2 deficit after four innings to pull out a 6-5 victory against Elmira Notre Dame .

The games were originally to be played Friday but were pushed back because of rain.

Ouellette delivered deciding hit

Cooper Ouellette's RBI single with one out in the top of the seventh inning broke a 5-5 tie and capped Lansing's comeback victory.

The Bobcats (14-3) tied the score on a two-run double from Ryan Pettograsso with one out in the sixth.

Mason Braid pitched two scoreless innings of relief, striking out three, to earn the victory.

Alex Daugherty went 4-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI for the Crusaders (12-7). Logan Meisner was 2-for-3 and his two-run homer in the third inning put Notre Dame up 5-2.

Walters dominated for Wolves

Jack Walters tossed a five-hitter that included 10 strikeouts and no walks as Union Springs (16-0) rolled past Tioga in the Small School tilt.

Walters added a 3-for-4 day at the plate, smacking a pair of doubles and driving in two runs.

Aaron Johnson was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI for Union Springs, which scored seven runs in the sixth inning to extend its lead to 10-1.

Tate MaCauley had two hits for Tioga (12-5).
