A driver involved in a collision with a motorcycle last month that killed a Barton man and seriously injured another person has been charged with multiple felonies.

The Tioga County Sheriff's Office announced Jack S. Lineburg, 58, of Athens, Pennsylvania, whose name was not initially released after the crash, has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated vehicular assault, driving while intoxicated, and driving while having a blood alcohol content greater than .08%, all felonies.

He was also charged with a misdemeanor count of reckless driving and several traffic violations.

The charges stem from a Sept. 16 crash near Tioga Downs in the Town of Nichols that resulted in the death of 64-year-old Calvin H. Pierce, of Barton.

Around 8:17 p.m. on that date, sheriff's deputies responded to the intersection of West River Road and the Tioga Downs entrance for a report of a serious motor vehicle crash involving a car and a motorcycle.

Deputies and investigators determined Lineburg was westbound in a 2002 Corvette when he struck a 2002 Yamaha motorcycle operated by Pierce.

The motorcycle was also traveling west and had stopped to turn when it was struck. Pierce and a passenger, 45-year-old Carla R. Pierce, of Ulster, Pennsylvania, were both ejected on impact.

Both motorcyclists were transported to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. Calvin Pierce died from his injuries the next day. Carla Pierce suffered multiple serious injuries but is in stable condition and is recovering, the sheriff's office said.

Lineburg has a previous DWI conviction in New York within the last 10 years, the sheriff's office said, and was reportedly driving at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash.

Lineburg was arraigned in Tioga County Centralized Arraignment Part Court and committed to the Tioga County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.

He will answer the charges at a later date in Town of Nichols Court.
