Week 5 HS Football: Horseheads hosts Corning; four teams put unbeaten records on the line

One rival down, another coming up for the Horseheads football team .

The Blue Raiders (3-2) were dominant from the start last week in a 42-6 victory against cross-county opponent Elmira High School. This week Horseheads returns to its home stadium to take on another neighbor in Corning (3-1), highlighting the Week 5 schedule for Section 4 high school football teams.

Last time these teams met, Horseheads was a 29-20 winner to close the 2023 regular season.

Lucas Mosher comes off a five-touchdown, two-interception game for Horseheads. He also ran for 151 yards as the Raiders snapped a two-game slide. Horseheads is a multidimensional offense led by quarterback Dom Cardinale.

Corning ran into a familiar Section 3 nemesis last week in suffering its first loss, 58-36, to Cicero-North Syracuse.

The positive side of that setback was Corning was within six points until late in the third quarter and the Hawks put up 398 rushing yards.

That matchup is one of three contests pitting large-school Southern Tier Athletic Conference schools against each other Friday. Elmira is home against Union-Endicott, while Vestal will welcome Binghamton.
