Traffic on Tillotson Avenue to close between University and Riverside avenues

MUNCIE, Ind. — Beginning Monday, Aug. 19, Tillotson Avenue will be closed between University and Riverside avenues for about one month.

According to a news release from Indiana Michigan Power, the closure will allow crews to safely install underground equipment.

“The road closure is for one reason — safety,” said Rob Keisling, I&M External Affairs manager for East-Central and Northeast Indiana. “There have already been two vehicle accidents in our work zones for this project, so we worked with the city of Muncie and determined this was the best way to protect our crews and the public.”

Weather permitting, the closure will last for about four weeks. Crews will work longer hours and extra days "to minimize the impact and reopen the road as soon as possible," the release said.

Work on the Tillotson Avenue transmission line project includes upgrading four miles of above- and below-ground power lines in northwest Muncie, to address many power outages in recent years, and replacing aging power poles and wires to reduce the likelihood of future outages.
