A man was shot by deputies in Aiken County after behaving “erratically.” The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is now investigating.

On July 25, deputies with the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call where a man was reported as “acting erratically while removing his clothing and walking along Columbia Highway” toward J.D. Lever Elementary School, a SLED news release said.

A physical altercation ensued between between deputies and the man, who has not yet been identified. Deputies deployed Tasers that were not effective and subsequently shot the man, according to the release.

The man remains hospitalized. There is no information available on the status of his condition.

One deputy was treated for injuries at the hospital. SLED is currently investigating the shooting at the request of the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.
