A “heartbroken” family couldn’t keep their senior dog — then her luck changed for the better.

After 12-year-old Blanche returned to a South Carolina animal shelter , she has been matched with a new owner.

“Her new family is wholeheartedly prepared to give her comfort and love for the rest of her life,” the Greenville Humane Society wrote Aug. 13 on Facebook. “We are absolutely thrilled for her.”

The heartwarming update came after Blanche went through a rough patch. The shelter said she first arrived after she likely was dumped in the street , McClatchy News reported.

“She was alone,” the shelter wrote in a past Facebook post. “Everything she had known was now gone. And she needed our help. There was no question — we took her.”

Blanche became known as a “sweet” dog with a love for meatballs. The shelter hoped the senior pup — who has vision loss and trouble walking — would find a family to “love her through her final days.”

Blanche was adopted, but it didn’t work out. Her adopters had three other dogs, and Blanche became “incredibly stressed” in her new home. So, the “heartbroken” family made the difficult decision to give her up , according to the shelter.

“We ultimately want what’s best for all parties,” the humane society wrote Aug. 11 on Facebook. “We will welcome Blanche back with open arms and continue to work tirelessly to find the right fit for her.”

Then on Aug. 13, the shelter shared good news: Blanche was adopted into a home where there are no other dogs. Dozens of social media users expressed their joy as she kicked off her next chapter.

A shelter spokesperson didn’t immediately share additional information with McClatchy News on Aug. 15.
