There will be no slow start this season for the Dutch Fork football team.
The Silver Foxes stumbled out of the gates last season but looked sharp Friday night as they defeated Ridge View, 38-0, for their second straight win to begin the year.
With a tough early schedule and some injuries in 2023, the Silver Foxes started 2-5 before winning their final eight games and the program’s eighth state championship. Through two games this year, Dutch Fork has outscored its opponents, 62-7, in road wins over Spartanburg and Ridge View.
“First half, we were pretty good,” Dutch Fork coach Tom Knotts said. “Our defense was good, the offense did what they needed to do. Real pleased with the first half.”
Dutch Fork scored 28 points in the second quarter and led 31-0 at halftime.
Junior quarterback Ethan Offing threw for 201 yards and three touchdown passes, two to KJ Smith. The senior had five catches for 91 yards.
Boykin Bickley added five catches for 57 yards and a touchdown. Running back Maurice Anderson rushed for 94 yards and two touchdowns.
The Silver Foxes did a good job shutting down Ridge View star receiver Jordon Gidron . West Virginia commitment Elgin Sessions covered him most of the night and held him to two catches for 34 yards.
Blazers quarterback Tre Howard threw for 188 yards. Kristian Jackson led RV (1-2) with four catches for 64 yards.
Batesburg-Leesville 37, Abbeville 35
Tanner Watkins threw for 266 yards and three touchdowns as Class 2A Batesburg-Leesville (2-0) knocked off the top-ranked team in Class A.
It was B-L’s first win over Abbeville (2-1) since 2014.
Amadre Wooden added 89 yards and a TD, and KJ Whitt had four catches for 117 yards and three touchdowns, including a 22-yarder on the final play of the first half to put B-L up 30-21.
Abbeville cut it to 30-28, but Watkins’ 1-yard run put B-L up 37-28 with 8:40 left. Abbeville got within 37-35 when USC commit Demarcus Leach scored with 2:19 left.
B-L went three-and-out on its next possession and Abbeville drove it down to the 39 before turning it over on downs.
Irmo 35, Butler (NC) 34 (OT)
AJ Brand scored on the first play of overtime as the Yellow Jackets defeated the Bulldogs.
Irmo got the ball first in overtime and scored on Brand’s 10-yard run. Butler answered with a touchdown on its first possession and decided to go for a two-point conversion. But the Bulldogs mishandled the snap and the Yellow Jackets moved to 3-0 on the season.
Brand, a Virginia Tech commit, rushed for 139 yards, threw for 142 and accounted for three scores. Donovan Murph had eight catches for 87 yards and a TD catch. Amire White rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns.
Camden 22, Hartsville 14
Tylin Drakeford had the go-ahead, 10-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter and sealed the game with an interception in the Bulldogs’ win over the Red Foxes.
Camden (2-1) trailed 14-0 in the second quarter but tied it with 5:54 left in the third on Drakeford’s pass to JoJo Crim.
White Knoll 42, Brookland-Cayce 13
Quarterback Landon Sharpe threw a TD and ran for another as the Timberwolves (2-1) bounced back their first loss of the season.
WK also had rushing touchdowns from Tiyon Fanning, Jordan Keith and Sh’quez Montgomery. Devin Geronomi added a punt return in the first half to make it 14-0.
Amarii King had two TD runs for B-C (0-2).
River Bluff 35, Nation Ford 30
Quarterback Parker Murray threw five touchdown passes as the Gators held off a late rally from Nation Ford.
Murray was 22-of-29 for 280 yards passing. Aaron Griffin had nine catches for 146 yards and a TD. Brock Godfrey added two TD catches while Stephen Collier and Lathen Smalls each had one.
Hayden Myers led River Bluff (3-0) with 148 yards rushing.
The Gators led 35-17 in the third quarter before Nation Ford cut it to 35-30 with 2:55 left on Carson Sanford’s TD pass to Josh Ameo. Sanford threw for 366 yards and four touchdowns. Ameo had 15 catches for 226 yards and three TDs.
Chapin 49, Spring Valley 14
Brady Albro threw four touchdown passes before leaving the game early with an ankle injury as the Eagles moved to 3-0.
Chapin coach Ryan Cole said he kept Albro out for precautionary reasons. The Eagles were up 27-0 when he went out.
Stone Furrey caught a touchdown pass and returned a punt for a score. Colione Martin had a TD run.
Blythewood 23, Lakewood 7
Johnny Collins threw three touchdown passes and Jaylen Reaves picked off three passes as the Bengals moved to 3-0.
It was Blythewood’s first game since the death of junior offensive lineman Troy Moore, who died Saturday . Moore’s funeral will be on Saturday. Both Blythewood and Fort Mill decals on their helmets with Moore’s initials and No. 51.
Fort Mill also had Moore’s No. 51 painted on the field. Blythewood coaches wore T-Shirts with “Troy Strong” on the front and “Moore 51” on the back.
Carter Coleman had two touchdown catches and Ben Hendrix had one.
Lexington 25, Midland Valley 14
The Wildcats went to 3-0 with their second straight road win.
Gavin Kovak kicked a pair of field goals and the Wildcats had a special teams touchdown in the win. Matthew McAulay blocked a punt and Ethan Van Houten returned it for a score.
Quarterback Brennon Carter had a touchdown pass to Deacon DiMarco and Carter also ran for a TD.
Dreher 21, Lakewood 13
Willie Smith had two touchdown runs as the Blue Devils (2-1) rallied from a 13-point deficit to defeat the Gators.
Dreher trailed 13-0 going into the fourth quarter.
Richland Northeast 25, Westwood 0
North Carolina State commitment Will Wilson threw two touchdown passes as the Cavaliers moved to 3-0 on the season.
It’s RNE’s first 3-0 start since 2010. The shutout of the Redhawks (1-2) is the program’s first since blanking Ridge View in October of 2011.
Wilson threw for 206 yards and rushed for 65. Blake Betette and Isaiah Smalls had TD catches.
Chris Aszu returned an interception for a score and Devin Brown also added a TD run.
Hammond 27, Porter-Gaud 15
Quarterback Andrew Turner threw four touchdown passes as the Skyhawks moved to 3-0.
Turner was 13-of-18 passing for 175 yards. He has 10 TD passes in three games this season.
Jack Croft had six catches for 73 yards and two TDs. LSU commitment Mike Tyler had two catches for 49 yards and a TD.
AC Flora 36, Christ School (NC) 21
Quarterback Roper Wentzky threw touchdown passes to four different receivers in the Falcons’ win.
Jeremiah Mack had one of those TD catches and also ran for a score for Flora (2-1). Kendall Byrd, Tripp Van Vlake and Grady Bell also had TD catches.
Lugoff-Elgin 35, Darlington 18
Aiden Fitzgerald threw three touchdown passes, two to EJ Richardson in the Demons’ victory.
L-E running back Jarkese Grant had two touchdown runs and rushed for more than 100 yards.
Swansea 39, Wagener-Salley 15
The Tigers improved to 3-0 on the season for the first time since 2012 with a win over Wagener-Salley.
Dante Caldwell and Teysean Charley each rushed for more than 100 yards for Swansea. Caldwell had two TDs and Charley one. Kevin Sightler returned a 76-yard fumble for a touchdown.
Lower Richland 46, Colleton County 20
Jaylin Simmons ran for three touchdowns in the Diamond’ Hornets’ second straight win.
Aden Jones threw for a touchdown and LR (2-1) scored twice on defense with Ophir Hill and Sergino Samuels with fumble returns for touchdowns.
Fairfield Central 52, CA Johnson 0
Tydarion Grier ran for two touchdowns and the Griffins (2-1) also scored two defensive touchdowns in the victory.
Chancey Turner returned an interception for a score and Douglas McCloud had a fumble return for one.
North Central 33, Columbia 8
Ashton Brazzell threw for two touchdowns and Jon Clarkson ran for two as the Knights (2-0) handed the Capitals (2-1) their first loss of the season.
Clarkson also had three sacks and forced two fumbles.
Keenan 26, Battery Creek 0
The Raiders improved to 2-1 with a win over the Dolphins.
Wilson Hall 21, Ben Lippen 7
The Barons handed the Falcons (2-1) their first loss of the season.
Milling Galloway had two touchdown runs for Wilson Hall.
Florence Christian 28, Heathwood Hall 7
Patrick Belk had a touchdown in the Highlanders’ loss.
