U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, R-Springdale, is expected to be released from a D.C.-area hospital after receiving a pacemaker, his office said .

Wilson collapsed and experienced strokelike symptoms Tuesday at an event in Washington, D.C.

However, after receiving the pacemaker, he is expected to be able to leave the hospital “in a matter of days.”

“He is recovering quickly,” Wilson’s office said.

While being evaluated this week, the congressman’s office said in an update Thursday “(Wilson) is in good spirits, improving and speaking with family.”

Wilson’s wife, Roxanne, was with the 77-year-old congressman in the hospital.

Joe Wilson’s office did not immediately disclose what medical issue led to his collapse Tuesday.
