A new spot for sweet treats and more is set to open its doors in one of Columbia’s key retail areas.

Dulce Bakery and Cafe will have its grand opening at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 1213 Lincoln St. in the Vista, according to a release from the Vista Guild and a post on the bakery’s Facebook page . Dulce is opening in the spot that was formerly home to Cupcake DownSouth, which closed in 2022 .

Dulce Bakery and Cafe is owned by Iris Perea and Sharisa Boyle, who previously ran Cake Collection Boutique in the Irmo area. That business has now been rebranded Dulce as it moves into the Vista.

The bakery will offer cake slices, cupcakes, tres leche, brownies, coffee and breakfast sandwiches. In the future the shop plans to offer soups and sandwiches during lunch hours, and a dessert bar at night, according to the Vista Guild.

The Vista continues to be a busy arts, nightlife and retail district in downtown Columbia, just west of the State House. Businesses near Dulce include Poke Bros., Smoothie King, Cava, and The Blue Marlin, among a host of others.

About 30,700 cars per day travel down nearby Gervais Street, which runs through the heart of the district, according to state Department of Transportation data .
