    G’day, Lexington.

Outback Steakhouse, the well-known, Aussie-themed restaurant chain, will open a new location at 5595 Sunset Blvd. in Lexington at 4 p.m. Oct. 15, according to a company spokeswoman.

The site formerly was home to an O’Charley’s casual dining restaurant, which closed in 2022. The O’Charley’s building was demolished, and Outback has built a new facility on the site.

The new Lexington outback is roughly 4,700-square-feet and, according to a statement from the company, “features modern touches with a spacious dining room and a large bar area with Great Barrier Reef design with a seating capacity of 187 guests.”

About 125 employees will work at the Sunset Boulevard Outback, the company said.

The Lexington Outback will also feature some artwork with a bit of local flair, depicting a kangaroo basking in the sun on a dock at Lake Murray.

There are nearly 700 Outback locations in the U.S., according to data site ScrapeHero . Other Columbia-area locations include a spot on Harbison Boulevard and one at 7611 Two Notch Road.

Founded in 1988 in Florida, Outback is known, as you’d expect, for its steak menu , as well as sandwiches, seafood, desserts, salads, pasta and appetizers, including the famous Bloomin’ Onion.

The location at 5595 Sunset Blvd. is near a number of other retail businesses, including Papa John’s, Tractor Supply Co., a Verizon store and many more. A Home Depot and a Walmart are across the street.

More than 35,000 cars per day travel down that stretch of Sunset, per state Department of Transportation statistics.

Hope service is way better than the one in Harbison. Service there was terrible.

Dang, it sure took a long time. Like Habit Burger, which looks deserted every time I drive by.
