Threat of stormy weather altering high school football schedule for Midlands teams

With inclement weather in the forecast for Thursday and Friday from the effects of tropical weather, some Midlands high school football games are moving their games around this week.

Eight local games have been moved up to Wednesday, one game moved to Thursday and two Westwood at Ridge View and Lancaster at Richland Northeast will be on Saturday afternoon. Camden at Dreher, which was originally scheduled for Thursday at Memorial Stadium, has been moved to Lower Richland on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Dreher shares Memorial Stadium with A.C. Flora, which hosts York on Friday.

This is the second time in three weeks the threat of rain is moving scheduled games up. It’s possible some teams opt to move games to Saturday.

A building tropical system is forecast to make landfall as a hurricane on the western coast of Florida late Thursday. For the Columbia area, the National Weather Service predicts a 90% chance of rain for Thursday evening and a 60% Friday — mostly in the morning hours.
