Two men were shot following an argument that turned physical Wednesday night, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department .

At about 7 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a shooting at an apartment complex at 508 Longtown Road , the sheriff’s department said Thursday in a news release. That’s in Columbia, near Farrow Road and the junction of Killian and Clemson roads.

Deputies found two men who had been shot lying on the ground, according to the release.

Both men were taken to an area hospital, the sheriff’s department said. Further information on their conditions was not available.

During their investigation deputies determined that the men were acquaintances who became involved in an altercation that turned physical, according to the release. There was no word about why the men were arguing.

When it became a physical incident, one man got a gun and began firing at the second man, the sheriff’s department said. The second man also got a gun and began shooting at the first man, and both men suffered gunshot wounds, according to the release.

    No other injuries were reported.

The shooting remains under investigation by the sheriff’s department, which said charges are forthcoming.
