    Rodent droppings all over. Black moldy sink. Midlands restaurants with worst September inspections

    South Carolina health inspectors found multiple violations at restaurants in the Midlands in September, from rodent droppings on equipment and shelves to a moldy sink and workers not washing their hands. The state each month releases grades and inspection reports for food establishments across Midlands counties.

    Here are the restaurants that received some of the lowest ratings in September.

    China 8 at 340 E Martintown Road in Aiken

    China 8 had an inspection on Sept. 9 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed a large number of flies throughout the facility. Also observed was a dead roach in the kitchen under the prep table.

    A worker was seen eating in the kitchen, then start cooking without washing hands. Raw chicken was seen stored over unprotected onions and beef in the walk-in cooler. Toxic chemicals were seen stored with rice sticks.

    Multiple food items were seen stored on the floor.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on Sept. 17 and got an A grade.

    Seagulls at 1305 Hwy. 9 Bypass West in Lancaster

    Seagulls had an inspection on Sept. 10 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed raw fish stored over cooked wings in reach-in cooler.

    Certain foods were seen not kept at proper cooling temperatures. Air gaps were seen at the back door. Single use items were seen stored on the floor. The freezer door was seen in poor repair and not sealing completely.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on Sept. 17 and got an A grade.

    Angelo’s at 333 Village Square Dr. in Lexington

    Angelo’s had an inspection on Sept. 17 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed rodent droppings and dead inspects in the dry storage area.

    A worker was seen not washing hands before changing tasks from raw foods to ready-to-eat foods. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures. Clean utensils were seen stored in a bucket that was dirty with food debris. Dust and food residue was seen on equipment.

    A required followup inspection has not yet been held.

    New Huan Wok at 7467 St. Andrews Road in Lexington

    New Huan Wok had an inspection on Sept. 4 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed flies throughout the facility. Also observed were rodent and pest dropping on equipment, shelving and the floor.

    An employee was seen handling raw food then cooked food without washing hands. Soiled dishes and containers were seen stored as clean. Plastic containers used for breading and coating raw proteins were found crusty and soiled.

    Plastic containers full of chicken pieces were seen stacked on top of each other with no lid covering to separate them. Grease, food matter and debris was seen under fryers and the cook line.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on Sept. 12 and got an A grade.

    Chen’s Garden at 1180 Dutch Fork Road in Richland

    Chen’s Garden had an inspection on Sept. 17 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed bare hand contact with sliced pork.

    Dirty and soiled dishes were seen stored as clean. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures. Spring rolls were seen stored directly in grocery style bags.

    A required followup inspection has not yet been held.

    China 1 at 11107 Broad River Road in Richland

    China 1 had an inspection on Sept. 19 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed flies throughout the facility. Also observed gaps around the edges of the rear screen door.

    Raw chicken was seen stored above seafood and beef in the freezer. Raw beef was stored with noodles and vegetables in the deep freezer. Dirty dishes with food matter were seen stored as clean.

    Certain foods were seen held beyond their seven-day usable shelf life. Food matter and debris were seen on equipment and shelving.

    A required followup inspection has not yet been held.

    Cocteles El Primo at 1945 Decker Blvd in Richland

    Cocteles El Primo had an inspection on Sept. 16 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed an employee not wash hands when changing tasks. Also observed an employee mop the floor then return to cooking without washing hands.

    Pans of ready-to-eat food were seen stored in front of pans with raw seafood in the prep cooler. The walk-in cooler was seen not maintaining proper temperature. Frozen meat was seen stored in a grocery type bag.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on Sept. 17 and got another C grade. A second followup inspection has not yet been held.

    Popeyes at 1160 Dutch Fork Road in Richland

    Popeyes had an inspection on Sept. 17 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed rodent and pest droppings under shelving in dry storage. Also observed flies throughout the facility.

    Employees were seen without adequate hair restraint. Employees were seen smoking, then return to work without washing hands. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures.

    Excessive grease and debris buildup was seen under fryers and on walls under the hood system. Black microbial growth was seen on the walls around a sink.

    A required followup inspection has not yet been held.

    Scotties Cafe and Grill at 10400 Wilson Blvd in Richland

    Scotties Cafe and Grill had an inspection on Sept. 4 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed flies throughout the facility.

    Boxes of food were seen stored on the floor. An employee was seen handling raw and ready-to-eat foods without washing hands. Raw chicken was seen stored over bread in the walk-in cooler.

    Potatoes were seen sitting in water and grime. Salmon was seen exposed to dripping water in the walk-in cooler. Also seen was bags of spoiled salad mix.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on Sept. 11 and got an A grade.
