Virginia Tech commitment AJ Brand had three rushing touchdowns Friday night as Irmo won a battle of the unbeatens, 35-14, over River Bluff.
It was the Yellow Jackets’ 19th-straight regular-season win. Both teams came into the game with 6-0 records and ranked in the Top 10 of Class 5A in South Carolina.
Brand had two scores and running back Amire White added one to put the Jackets (7-0, 2-0) up 21-0 in the second quarter. River Bluff (6-1, 1-1) cut it to 21-7 on Hayden Myers’ 9-yard run with 2:21 left in the second quarter. The Yellow Jackets blocked a Gators field-goal attempt late in the second quarter.
Brand made it 28-7 in the third quarter on a TD run, and Maleek Miller also scored for the Yellow Jackets.
Brand finished with 210 yards rushing and threw for 120 more. White rushed for 120. Donovan Murph had five catches for 94 yards.
Myers led the Gators with 137 yards rushing. QB Brayden Moore threw for 142 yards and a TD.
Dutch Fork 38, White Knoll 0
Running back Maurice Anderson had three touchdowns and the Silver Foxes notched their fourth shutout of the season in dominating the rematch of last year’s 5A title game.
The Silver Foxes (6-0, 2-0) led 14-0 at halftime but scored twice in a two-minute stretch in the third quarter. QB Ethan Offing hit Anderson on a 45-yard TD pass. Then, West Virginia commit Elgin Sessions picked off a pass and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown to make it 28-0.
Anderson rushed for 81 yards and caught five passes for 68 yards. Offing was 15-of-20 passing for 202 yards and also rushed for 55 yards and a TD.
Lexington 33, Chapin 32
Brennan Carter’s 22-yard TD pass to Nigel Lewis with 43 seconds left gave the Wildcats a come-from-behind victory.
Lexington (5-2, 1-1) trailed 23-13 in the third quarter but tied it up at 26-26 in the fourth on Bennett Watford’s touchdown.
Chapin (4-3, 0-2) took a 32-26 lead on a Colione Martin’s 45-yard touchdown run but missed the extra point.
Lexington then drove down for the winning score and a key third-down completion on the drive.
West Florence 19, Blythewood 14
Victor Tabb had the go-ahead score on a fumble recovery in the third quarter to help the Knights (5-2, 2-1) to a road win over the Bengals.
Tabb picked up Johnny Collins’ fumble and returned it one yard for the score with 2:08 left in the third quarter.
The Knights were able to put the game away on a gutsy fake punt call with less than three minutes left. Keyshawn Johnson hit Jayaun Perkins on the play and Blythewood (6-2, 2-2) didn’t get the ball back until 11 seconds left.
The Bengals’ defense came up with some big stops in the second half, but the offense couldn’t capitalize.
West Florence took a 13-0 lead in the first quarter on a pair of touchdown passes. On fourth-and-13, Avery Weaver hit Terry Lowery on a 33-yard touchdown pass on the Knights’ first drive . West added a TD later in the quarter on Johnson’s TD pass to Kelen Thomas.
Blythewood got on the board in the second quarter on Collins’ 43-yard TD pass to Carter Coleman. Collins put the Bengals up 14-13 in the third quarter on a 35-yard pass to Ben Hendrix.
Ridge View 50, Lugoff-Elgin 0
Quarterback Tre Howard threw four touchdowns as the Blazers (4-3, 3-0) won their third straight game.
Howard was 13 of 17 passing for 275 yards. Khristian Jackson had two TD catches. Hayden Morris and Chris McDonald each had one for the Blazers. Brad Wilson ran for a pair of scores.
Ridge View’s defense had six sacks and forced three turnovers.
Westwood 26, Spring Valley 0
Quentin McGill had 134 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns in the Redhawks’ shutout win.
Angelo Rios and Jovan Howard each had TD runs for Westwood (4-3, 2-1). The Redhawks picked off three passes.
AC Flora 44, Richland Northeast 7
The Falcons (6-2, 3-1) scored 23 points in the first quarter on their way to a region win over the Cavs (6-2-2).
Roper Wentzky had a pair of TD passes to Kendall Byrd and Noah Kelson, Anzel Banag, Palmer Flake and Jaquan Williams all had TD runs for the Falcons.
RNE played its second straight game without starting quarterback Will Willson (knee).
Gray Collegiate 50, Airport 0
The War Eagles (3-2, 2-0) won their second straight region game with a shutout of Airport.
Keenan 44, Silver Bluff 15
Desmond Washington threw six touchdown passes and ran for another in Keenan’s win.
Nykeim and Tyheim McNeil each caught two touchdowns for the Raiders (5-3, 1-1). Deion Hollins and Hunter O’Neal also had TD catches.
Hammond 51, Augusta Christian 16
Kinson Holland had three touchdown runs in the Skyhawks’ victory.
Newberry 47, Fox Creek 0
Kenton Caldwell threw two touchdowns and ran for another in the Bulldogs’ win over Fox Creek.
Running back BJ Jones also had two rushing touchdowns for Newberry (3-1, 1-0) and Bryce Satterwhite had a TD pass.
South Carolina commit Jamel Howse caught a TD pass for the Bulldogs along with Cash Brown and Isaiah Glymph.
Gilbert 35, Midland Valley 28
The Indians scored twice in the fourth quarter to rally for the region win.
Gilbert (2-3, 1-1) trailed 28-21 heading into the fourth but Jaylen Jay’s 2-yard run tied it up at 28. Cooper James hit Chandler Guthrie on a go-ahead 31-yard touchdown with 1:11 left.
James was 13-of-20 for 253 yards and three touchdowns. Connor Gooding had two catches for 105 yards and a TD and Guthrie caught five passes for 79 yards.
Jay finished with 64 yards rushing.
Lower Richland 23, Wilson 20
Zayair Yates’ TD sealed the Diamond Hornets’ win over the Tigers.
Christian Wilson had a touchdown run for Lower Richland (4-4, 2-2) and tight Noah Lucas had a 59-yard TD pass to QB Antonio Adams.
Fairfield Central 22, Chester 6
Tydarion Grier rushed for three touchdowns including two in the second half as the Griffins (6-1, 1-0) pulled away from the Cyclones.
Batesburg-Leesville 42, Ninety-Six 14
The Panthers improved to 6-0 with a win over Ninety-Six.
Amadre Wooden rushed for 209 yards and three touchdowns for the Panthers (6-0, 1-0). Quarterback Tanner Watkins was 7-of-11 passing for 145 yards and two TDs. Watkins moved in third all-time is passing yards and second all-time in career TD passes.
Jamerius Clark caught three passes for 90 yards, returned a punt for a TD and also had an interception.
Laurence Manning 33, Cardinal Newman 26
Caleb Ford rushed for 301 yards and two touchdowns in the loss for Cardinal Newman
Richard Winn 48, King Academy 28
Charlie Bonds threw for three touchdowns and ran for two in Richard Winn’s victory.
Jake Gaillard had two TD catches and Josh Tyndall had one.
Saluda 53, Pelion 0 (Thursday)
The Tigers (5-0, 1-0) scored 43 points in the first half on their way to a region win over the Panthers (1-6, 0-1)
Tristan Daniels rushed for three touchdowns, and Brayden Williams and Drew Arant each threw one. Arant was 6-of-9 passing for 177 yards. Williams had 140 all-purpose yards and also ran for a TD.
Ben Lippen 10, Heathwood Hall 6 (Thursday)
Braden Mayre had a two-yard TD run in the first half and clinched the game with a 60-yard run in the Falcons’ victory.
Zack Mathew also added a field goal late in the third quarter to put Ben Lippen (3-3) up 10-6.
James Richardson kicked two field goals for the Highlanders (1-6).
