A shooting victim’s body was found in a South Carolina road Saturday, and a search is underway for a killer, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office .

D’ante Archie, a 20-year-old Sumter County resident, died from the injuries he suffered in a shooting, Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker said Sunday.

At about 9:50 a.m. Saturday, deputies responded to a 911 call about an unconscious man lying in the 5000 block of Byas Road near a home, the sheriff’s office said. That’s near the Wedgefield area of Sumter County.

The victim, later identified as Archie, died at the scene, according to the coroner’s office. A vehicle that was parked nearby in the road belonged to Archie, the sheriff’s office said.

No other injuries were reported, but Archie’s death might be related to another shooting , according to the sheriff’s office. Sheriff Anthony Dennis, who also responded to the scene, said another shooting was reported on Duffie Drive at about 2 a.m. That’s less than a mile from where Archie’s body was discovered .

Further information about the 2 a.m. shooting, and if anyone was injured, was not available.

There was no word about a shooter or shooters, or anyone else involved in Archie’s death. Information about a motive for that shooting was not available.

No arrests have been reported by the sheriff’s office, which is continuing to investigate the death along with the coroner’s office. An autopsy will be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston .

“Our investigators are gathering evidence and interviewing eyewitnesses, and we are only in the early stages of our investigation,” Dennis said in a news release.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 803-436-2000, CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip .

In the case of an emergency, always call 911.

The mayor, Sheriff Dennis and any other high authority figure need to stop the fair from coming to Sumter because of all this shooting and killing going on. Sumter has become so bad lately and the Sumter County Fair is going to contribute more to these shootings 😢. LORD THE PEOPLE NEED YOU NOW, MORE THAN EVER...
