How Midlands swimmers are faring at the 2024 SC state championships

The South Carolina High School League swimming championships began Tuesday and will run through Saturday.

Here is a look at how Midlands swimmers fared in the championships held at South Carolina University’s Natatorium.

The results will be updated throughout the week as championships continue on Thursday and Saturday.

Class 4A Girls

Gray Collegiate had multiple first-place finishes and came in second while AC Flora finished third.

Bishop England won the title with 517.5 points. Gray had 411.5 and AC Flora had 258.5.

Gray won the 200-yard IM relay, 400 free relay and was second in the 200 freestyle relay. Peyton Coker won the 200 IM and 100 freestyle and was third in the 100 freestyle. Peighton Johnson won the 200 freestyle. GCA’a Maddison Mitton was second in the 50 freestyle, Sabey Coker in the 100 butterfly and Whitney Moody in the 200 backstroke.

Camden’s Grace Boyce won the 100 breaststroke and was second in the 200 freestyle.

Class 5A Division I Girls

River Bluff’s Maecy Wells won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke and was part of the Gators’ winning 200 IM. Wells

As a team, River Bluff finished sixth. Wando won the championship with 354 points. JL Mann was second with 331.5

Class 3A Boys

Mid-Carolina’s Grant Smith won the 200 freestyle and was second in the 500 freestyle.

Greer Middle College won the Class 3A Boys swimming championship. St. Joseph’s was second.

SCISA Championships

The SC Independent Schools held its championships on Oct. 12 in North Charleston.

Hammond boys finished second and the girls third in the 4A championships.

Hammond’s Schuch won the 200 freestyle and was second in the 500 freestyle. Alex Magargle was second in the 200 IM.

Ben Lippen finished second in the 200 IM relay and Brandon Bullard was second in the 200 freestyle.

In the girls championship, Hammond’s Stella Schuch won the 200 IM and was second in the 100 breastroke. Cardinal Newman’s Leighton Maxfield won the 500 freestyle and was second in the 200 freestyle.

Ben Lippen’s Georgia Crisp won the 100 backstroke.
