Drivers should take note that traffic could be affected by work on a busy road in Richland County, according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation . And the work is expected to last for months.

There will be a temporary, single-lane closure on Clemson Road, SCDOT said in a news release. The lane will be closed in the stretch of Clemson Road near the intersection with Hardscrabble Road , one of the busier areas in the northeast area of Columbia.

Beginning Oct. 21, both the lane and sidewalks in the area will be closed as part of a utility relocation, according to the release. More specific information about the roadwork was not available.

This closure is expected to last until December , SCDOT said.

There are several businesses in the area where the closure is happening, but they will not lose access to Clemson Road despite the roadwork, according to the release. Cones will be placed so that traffic will be allowed in and out of businesses, SCDOT said.

SCDOT is asking drivers to take the roadwork into consideration when traveling in that area, imploring them to “slow down and pay attention when driving through the work zone.”
