Man shot after doing donuts, driving recklessly in Springfield, police say

A man was arrested Tuesday morning after he allegedly shot another man for doing donuts in his car and driving recklessly.

Springfield police said the shooting happened around 10:30 a.m. in the 1400 block of South 17th Street. According to police, the suspect warned the driver to quit driving recklessly before the shooting.

The man who was shot was hit multiple times in the upper body, according to police, and his injuries are considered non-life threatening.

Police said the man who fired his weapon was visiting his mother at the time of the shooting. Names or ages of both the suspect and the victim have not been released as of Tuesday afternoon.

The shooting Tuesday morning was at least the third shooting in Springfield since Saturday night.

Officers responded to the 2500 block of Milford Drive around 11 p.m. Saturday and found a 15-year-old boy who had been shot in the face.

He was taken to the hospital for his non-life-threatening injuries, police said in a news release.

Police believe the shooting happened after a dispute between two groups of teenagers broke out in the 2700 block of West Lawrence Avenue.

Officers responded to another shooting hours later in the 300 block of South State Street. Police said a 15-year-old boy was hit by a bullet after someone shot multiple rounds towards the house. The boy's injuries are not considered to be life threatening.

No arrests have been made in either of the weekend shootings.
