    Top performers: Brayden Mueller, Chatham Glenwood win boys golf regional title in 3A

    This is a daily list of top performers from Springfield-area high school sports teams for the week of Sept. 30-Oct. 5, compiled from information provided to The State Journal-Register by coaches, athletic directors and team statisticians.

    ⭐ Games of the Week

    WILLIAMSVILLE DEF. PLEASANT PLAINS 25-18, 25-11: Britni Walters filled the stat sheet with eight kills, 10 digs and three service aces as the Bullets stayed unbeaten in the Sangamo Conference at 4-0 (14-6 overall) on Tuesday.

    Hannah Holliday led Williamsville with 10 kills and added seven digs, while Riley Holliday dialed up a match-high 18 assists. Brianna Walters collected 15 digs and two aces in the win. Williamsville, seeking a third straight Sangamo title and winners of 27 straight conference matches, claimed the sole lead of the standings following Maroa-Forsyth's 25-21, 25-22 loss to Athens.

    Jacelyn Hadley had three kills to lead Plains and teammate Izzy Lynch provided 10 digs. Makenzie Timm delivered five blocks for the Cardinals (13-9, 2-2).

    PLEASANT PLAINS DEF. ATHENS 25-22, 25-15: At Riverton, Pleasant Plains made a late stunning rally in the first en route to its seventh straight Sangamon County volleyball title on Monday.

    The Cardinals scored six straight points to escape with the first set after trailing by as much as four points down the stretch. Senior outside hitter Anna Cormeny tied up the first set 22-all with a kill while junior teammate Makenzie Timm cemented the comeback with a block.

    "We talked about coming from behind all season and making sure that we keep the energy up," Plains junior middle hitter Anna Weber said, "and I thought overall our defense did really well tonight."

    Plains previously lost twice to the Warriors this season.

    Junior hitter Willow Milkint led Plains with seven kills while Cormeny had five. Jace Hadley added three kills. Young setters Jada Leach and Emma Sabatka had eight and seven assists, respectively.

    Weber chalked up four blocks while Timm had two. Senior libero Izzy Lynch achieved eight digs and was named to the all-tournament team alongside Milkint.

    "I thought our blocks were really good," Weber said. "We've been working on communicating and going up for the block at the same time, and tonight I thought we did a really good job of that and we had our defense behind us, too."

    The all-tournament team also included Athens' Addie Stadsholt and Karsyn Jacoby. Others included Williamsville sisters Riley and Hannah Holliday; New Berlin's Jenna McGath; Auburn's Reese Megginson and Karlissa Clark; Pawnee's Ava Rodrguez; Riverton's Reagan Campbell; and Lutheran's Piper Taylor.

    Wednesday, Oct. 2

    🏌 Boys Golf

    Brayden Mueller/Derek Dulceak, Chatham Glenwood: Mueller shot 4-under-par 68 while Dulceak carded a 69 for third and fourth place, respectively, and the Titans won the Class 3A Collinsville Regional title at Arlington Greens Golf Course. Cam Appenzeller followed with a 71 for sixth place while Drew Downen tied for 11th with a 74.

    Jacob Jenkins, Springfield High: The senior turned in a 74 at Arlington Greens to individually advance to the Class 3A Decatur MacArthur Sectional.

    Colton Barr, Jacksonville: The senior fired 2-under-par 70 to individually win the Class 2A Canton Regional at Wee-Ma-Tuk Hills Country Club. The Crimsons finished in third place as a team.

    Bryce Coalson, Staunton: The junior shot 1-under-par 71 to win the individual and team titles at the Class 2A Roxana Regional hosted by Belk Park Golf Course. Sophomore teammate Owen Rizzi was third with a 79.

    Bryce Cowdrey, Raymond Lincolnwood: The sophomore won the individual Class 1A Mount Olive Regional 1-over-par 73 at Timber Lakes Golf Course.

    Tucker Maguire/Sam Schwab, Litchfield: The junior teammates tied for third place with 76 at Timber Lakes.

    Anderson Thielen, Pleasant Plains: The senior won the individual Class 1A Jacksonville Routt title 2-over-par 74 at the Jacksonville Country Club.

    Reed Fretueg, Rushville-Industry: The senior settled for second place individually at the Routt Regional with a 76 and the Rockets won the team title.

    Aiden Hatalla, North Mac: The senior shot 6-over-par 78 and tied for third place individually at the Class 1A Moweaqua Central A&M hosted by the Moweaqua Golf Course. The Panthers earned second as a team.

    ⚽ Boys Soccer

    Noah Rodenburg/Carter Matteson, Lutheran: Rodenburg scored the hat trick and Matteson delivered three assists in a 3-2 win over Pleasant Plains.

    Tuesday, Oct. 1

    🏌 Girls Golf

    Alaina Ervin, Pleasant Plains: The senior shot 1-over-par 73 to win the individual Class 1A Williamsville Regional title at The Rail Golf Course.

    Natalie Zak/Maddy Johnston, Sacred Heart-Griffin: Zak fired a 77 and Johnston carded a 79 to help claim the team Class 1A regional title at The Rail. Macie Petropoulos (80) and Izzy Hassebrock (82) rounded out the team score of 318.

    Taylor Keirs, North Mac: The senior finished in sixth place individually at The Rail to lead the Panthers to second place as a team. She finished with an 84.

    Isla Dunbar/Mackenzie Murphy, Chatham Glenwood: Dunbar shot an 86 for sixth place individually and teammate Murphy cracked the top 10 as well with a 93 to launch the Titans to third place as a team in the Class 2A Lincoln Regional at the Lincoln Elks Club and advance to sectionals.

    🏐 Volleyball

    Madison Clark/Rachel Becker, Springfield High: Clark dished out 35 assists and Becker registered 12 kills in the Senators’ 25-9, 24-26, 25-14 victory over Decatur Eisenhower.

    Addison Glen/Mackenzie Mehochko, Nokomis: Glen led Nokomis with 10 kills and Mehochko added nine kills, collected a team-high 16 digs and served three aces in a 25-19, 23-25, 25-10 win over Raymond Lincolnwood in the MSM Conference.

    Reagan Campbell/Lakin Johnson, Riverton: Campbell compiled 17 kills and Johnson supplied 17 assists and four kills in a 25-14, 25-20 win over Mason City Illini Central.

    🏊 Girls Swimming and Diving

    Erin Turk, Chatham Glenwood: Won four events, including three relays, to lead the Titans (222 points) to a quadrangular victory over Sacred Heart-Griffin (104), Southeast (28) and Jacksonville (28). She won the 50-yard freestyle (26.56 seconds) and was on the winning 200 medley, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays.

    🎾 Girls Tennis

    Caroline Sheehan/Laney Aleman, Sacred Heart-Griffin: Sheehan and Aleman won their Nos. 1 and 2 singles matches and paired up for a victory at No. 2 doubles to lead the Cyclones past Springfield High 8-1 in a dual meet.

    ⚽ Boys Soccer

    Evan Carrell/Faron Harmony, Springfield High: Carrell scored the hat trick and Harmony provided three assists in a 3-0 victory over Sacred Heart-Griffin.

    Landon Kutscher, Rochester: Kutscher assisted the opening goal to Carson Berberet before scoring unassisted in a 2-0 win over Mahomet-Seymour.

    Julian Rice, Riverton: Scored three first-half goals and assisted on two others in Riverton’s 7-0 win over Mt. Pulaski.

    Caleb Kolsto, Carlinville: Knocked in three goals and delivered an assist as Carlinville posted a 10-0 shutout against Vandalia in the South Central Conference.

    Monday, Sept. 30

    🏐 Volleyball

    Isabella Tiburzi/Hannah Gibson, Carlinville: Tiburzi tallied 16 assists while Gibson poured in 11 kills in a 25-14, 25-13 win over Alton Marquette.

    Mackenzie Mehochko/Kinley Stolte, Nokomis: Mehochko supplied 10 kills and 13 digs while Stolte summoned 11 digs, nine assists and four aces in a 25-18, 25-15 win over Hillsboro.

    ⚽ Boys soccer

    Keagan Brown/Caleb Kolsto, Carlinville: Brown scored the game-tying goal on Kolsto's assists in a 1-1 tie against Jerseyville.

    Reid Bodine, Williamsville: Scored three goals in Williamsville’s 9-0 victory over Riverton as the Bullets improved to 15-3.

    🏊 Girls swimming and diving

    Chloe Scheffler/Abby Myers, Springfield High: Scheffler claimed the 200-yard freestyle in 2:17.38 and 100 backstroke in 1:08.86. Myers also won two individual events: 200 IM (2:39.41) and the 100 butterfly (1:13.76).

    Grace Brock/Addison Wherley, Petersburg PORTA: Brock reached first place in the 50 freestyle (27.85) while Wherley won the 500 freestyle (6:21.23) and the Bluejays won the quadrangular at Eisenhower Pool that also included runnerup Springfield High.
