A 45-year-old Stockton man was found guilty of first-degree murder in the slaying of a young man outside Golden 1 Credit Union on Pacific Avenue in August 2022.

Additionally, Alexander was convicted of a firearm enhancement, which significantly increases his potential sentence, according to the district attorney's office.

"This senseless act of violence has no place in our community," District Attorney Ron Freitas said . "Thanks to the dedicated work of the Stockton Police Department, our office, the outstanding prosecution by DDA Kathy Murray, and the careful oversight of Judge Orcutt, justice has been served for Tyrique Harris and his family."

Despite 911 call, no officers dispatched until after fatal shooting

At 10:34 a.m. on Aug. 11, 2022, police received a 911 call that a fight had broken out at Golden 1 Credit Union.

    However, n o officers were dispatched .

Harris was fatally shot 14 minutes later.

The Stockton Police Department said, at the time, that officers weren't sent to investigate the fight because the officers on shift in the district that morning were responding to higher-priority calls. One of those calls included a man who was spotted carrying a large knife on West Hammer Lane.

When the fight at the bank was reported, the caller told dispatch that no weapons were visible, according to the police department.

Analysis: Stockton had 48 homicides in 2022. What happened?

Police arrived on scene at 10:52 a.m. after another caller reported a shooting. They found Harris suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the head and face outside the bank.

Prosecutors said video surveillance footage from the bank showed that Alexander and Harris had a brief physical altercation in the parking lot before the shooting. After the altercation, Harris walked to the side of the bank while Alexander entered the bank to complete a transaction, and then drove away.

Alexander returned and parked his car behind the bank. He then approached Harris from behind and shot him six times in broad daylight before fleeing the scene, prosecutors said.

Less than a month after the deadly shooting, Alexander was arrested in San Pablo by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. He was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on a murder charge.

Alexander is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 21. He faces 50 years to life in prison.
