A Stokes County man is being held in the Surry County Jail without privilege of bond in connection with a weekend shooting in Mount Airy which left a local resident with a leg wound.

In addition to being charged with shooting Ulises Garcia of Thomas Lane, Shelton Narayan Blakely, 20, of King, is facing nine felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and 10 counts of assault by pointing a gun.

The collective charges relate to Blakely’s alleged actions in the early morning hours Sunday as 10 people identified as assault victims were gathered at a home in the 1600 block of South Main Street.

Garcia was the only one hurt, being struck in a leg when Blakely discharged a 9mm Luger handgun at that location, with a non-life-threatening injury resulting.

After fleeing the scene, the King resident was arrested by the Dobson Police Department nearly three hours later during the traffic stop of a 2018 Toyota RAV4 on James Street.

An investigation linked him to the shooting in Mount Airy, where the suspect subsequently was returned to the city police station for processing.

Blakely was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury, a felony, in the wounding of Garcia.

He additionally is accused of discharging a firearm in the city limits, with five shell casings recovered at the scene.

The other assault victims include Amanda Marie Thomas and Dequan Alexander Stanley of the South Main Street residence; Benjamin Levi Thomas, no address listed; Ryan Bradley Ward of Old U.S. 52-South, Pilot Mountain; Camron Maurice Smith, a McBride Road resident.

Also, Myca Lewis Elmond and Jeremiah Ashton Chase Rosser, no addresses listed; Isaiah Gammons, who resides on Rockaway Trail; and Austin Lewis Gregory Elmond of West Elm Street.

Blakely is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court next Monday.
