    Lady Vikings sweep past Wildcats

    DANBURY—North Stokes’ tennis team defeated West Stokes 9-0 in a nonconference match on Aug. 21.

    Senior Rori Long, the Vikings’ No. 1 seed, beat Kathryn Davis in a back and forth match before Long took it 8-4.

    North’s Ila Hassan defeated Alyssa Sparks 8-5 in the battle of the two seeds. Reagan Dixon defeated Brenna Bowman 8-2 at No. 3, and Riley Flinchum beat Sadie Hartle 8-1.

    No. 5 seed Samantha Hennis beat the Wildcats’ Eden Goforth 8-3, and No. 6 Amilia Lynch won over Isabelle Carter by the same 8-3 score.

    The team of Long and Hassan defeated Davis and Hartle 8-0 in doubles No. 1, Dixon and Lynch won 8-3 over Sparks and Bowman at No. 2, and Flinchum and Hennis won 8-3 over Goforth and Carter.

    The Vikings improved to 4-1 overall after their 9-0 victory over Alleghany in both team’s opening Northwest 1A play.

    Long won 8-0, Hassan 8-3, Dixon 8-0, Flinchum 8-0, Hennis 8-5 and Lynch 8-0 in singles play.

    Long/Hassan was 8-1 in doubles No. 1, Dixon/Lynch 8-2 in doubles No. 2 and Flinchum/Hennis 8-0 in doubles No. 3.

    The Wildcats bounced back and beat Reidsville 7-2 in both team’s opening Mid-State 2A Conference play.

    Sparks, Bowman, Hartle, Goforth and Carter won their single matches with Sparks/Bowman and Goforth/Carte winning doubles.

    North Stokes improves to 4-1 and will host Mount Airy on Aug. 29 and travel to East Wilkes on Sept. 3. West Stokes improves to 2-2 and will travel to Morehead on Sept. 3.
