While Tropical Storm Debby is turning into a downer as far as weather goes, some people are taking the opportunity to make the most of the situation.

Several area restaurants and bars are having hurricane parties and special drinks to mark the storm.

    Hurricane parties

    • Tavern in the Forest in Carolina Forest is having a Hurricane Party Tuesday through Thursday. The restaurant at 4999 Carolina Forest Blvd. will have happy hour food and all-day drink specials.
    • Duck Dive Bar and Grill , 406 Sea Mountain Highway in North Myrtle Beach, will be opening at 4 p.m. with Tropical Storm Drinks all night to help people get their minds off the storm. “We know the flooding is going to be somewhat bad so we will do our best to prepare for it. All we can do, right? ... So come on up, get your mind off the storm and join us,” its Facebook post said.
    • Coastal Ale House at 115 Waccamaw Medical Park Drive in Conway will be serving up $5 Hurricane Cocktails all day Tuesday for its hurricane party. Happy hour will be from 4 to 8 p. m.

    Dance through the storm

Captain Archie’s is having a tropical storm bash with the band The Formers , who will perform from 6 to 10 p.m. The band will perform live music at the restaurant at 2200 Little River Neck Road in North Myrtle Beach.

Waiting out the storm at home

Other people have posted on social media that they are waiting out the storm at home. Some are sitting in garages watching the rain while others have asked for “hurricane” related tunes to play while they wait.

Those suggested so far include “Rock You Like a Hurricane” by Scorpions, “Purple Rain” by Prince, “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” by Creedence Clearwater Revival, “Umbrella” by Rihanna and “I Love a Rainy Night” by Eddie Rabbitt.
