Video: An alligator strolls near ocean in Myrtle Beach. Lifeguard clears water for reptile

Beachgoers were surprised Tuesday morning when they encountered an alligator walking on the beach in Myrtle Beach.

The reptile can be seen walking along the ocean waters outside the Sand Dunes Resort in Myrtle Beach.

The lifeguard cleared the waters and the area to make room for the beachgoers, according to witnesses.

Additional information about the alligator and whether it was removed was unavailable.

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources said Monday that it had not received any calls about the alligator.

A spokesperson for the SCDNR said that the alligator was removed by Myrtle Beach Police department under its permit from the SCDNR.

Myrtle Beach Public Works and Police Department members saved the alligator from a pipe at 73rd Avenue North Tuesday, according to a Facebook post from the city.
