Vote for The Sun News’ high school football Player of the Week: Sept. 2 poll

Horry and Georgetown County parents get to vote for which high school football player performed best during Week 1 of the South Carolina High School League.

Voting ends at midnight Thursday and will be announced Friday, Sept. 6, 2024. Parents and voters can find out who won by visiting The Sun News’ website . The announcement will also get posted on Ben Morse’s X, formerly known as Twitter account.

This poll is not scientific but an opportunity to highlight the talented athletes across the Myrtle Beach area.

Here are the Myrtle Beach area Player of the Week nominees

Brandon Cumbee, quarterback, Andrews High School: Senior Brandon Cumbee finished Andrews’ 38-10 victory against Georgetown High School with a passing touchdown. Cumbee also rushed for three touchdowns for 171 yards on 10 carries.

Ande Grate, quarterback, Waccamaw High School: Junior Andre Grate went 5/6 passing with 115 yards and two touchdowns in Waccamaw High School’s 37-27 loss to Hannah-Pamplico High School.

Mike Cavallini, linebacker, North Myrtle Beach High School: Junior Mike Cavallini finished North Myrtle Beach High School’s 27-21 loss to Darlington High School with an additional tackle for loss. Cavallini completed 88 percent of his defensive assignments.
